Urological Services
What is Urology?
Urology is the branch of Surgery that focuses on the urinary tracts of males and females, and on the reproductive system of males. Medical professionals specializing in the field of urology are called urologists and are trained to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with urological disorders.
Urinary obstruction, prostate enlargement (BPH), erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, urinary tract calculus disease (stones), and bladder, prostate, testicular and kidney cancer all make up a large portion of urologic practice. Some other common conditions treated by urologists are urinary tract infection, sexually transmitted disease and injury to urologic organs. The organs covered by urology include the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and the male reproductive organs (testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate and penis).
At Thorek Memorial Hospital, we have many talented Urologists on our Medical Staff.

Thorek's New Association with UIC
Thorek Memorial Hospital has developed a new association with the Department of Urology at the University of Illinois Medical Center Chicago and are working towards creating a Center of Excellence in Urology. This association with UIC further enables Thorek to offer the most advanced urological care to our patients, with ease of access and convenience.
This association includes an outpatient Urology Clinic in Thorek’s Ambulatory Care Center. UIC Urologists Dr. Leslie Deane, Dr. Stewart Lipson and Dr. Eli Michaels see patients in the clinic and provide preventative, diagnostic, and therapeutic services. In addition to the new outpatient Urology Clinic, Dr. Leslie Deane and Dr. Stewart Lipson will be performing minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgery using Thorek’s new da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System. Laparoscopic surgery describes the performance of surgical procedures with the assistance of a video camera and several thin instruments to treat a full range of urological problems, such as those mentioned above.
