According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, more than 12.7 million children and adolescents are obese or overweight.

Obese children may experience immediate health problems, which can lead to related problems in adulthood, including heart disease, high cholesterol levels and blood pressure, asthma, and a glucose intolerance, which can lead to diabetes.  Obese children also suffer from self-esteem issues and social discrimination.

In addition, studies have shown that obese children and teens are more likely to become obese as adults.

Thorek’s  Food and Nutrition Department is committed to providing adequate nutrition and counseling to its patients. To make an appointment, call (773) 975-1001 or visit www.Thorek.org.

Getting your child started early on healthy foods will make them more likely to make those choices as adults.
