Food and Nutrition
The Food and Nutrition Department is committed to providing adequate nutrition and counseling to our patients.We strive to promote health and wellness to the patients, our fellow employees and to the community.
- We support research and education within the food and nutrition community.
- We provide our in-patients with well-balanced, nutritional meals according to physician orders such as heart healthy, diabetic, renal, regular, soft, etc. during their stay.
- Guest trays are available for you to dine with your loved one for $5.00. Please tell your nurse and it will be arranged for you.
- The dietitians assess and educate in-patients on Medical Nutrition Therapy when appropriate. Diabetes, heart disease, cancer, hypertension, GI diseases, kidney disorders, HIV and Aids, eating disorders, exercise and weight management are a few of the nutrition interventions.
- Outpatient counseling is available by appointment with the dietitians. Counseling specialties include: diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, meal planning, and renal function. Call 773-975-5040, Fax (773) 975-6767 or email to nutrition@thorek.org to set up an appointment.

Meet the Dietitians
Karen Jaseckas, RD, LDN
Karen is the Director of Food and Nutrition and has worked at Thorek for 1 year. She received her Dietetics Degree from Dominican University and completed her internship at the Mayo Clinic.
Katie D'Andrea, RD, LDN
Katie has worked at Thorek for 2 years. She received her Dietetics Degree at Illinois State University and completed her internship at Loyola University Chicago.
Holly Bryant, RD, LDN, MPH
Holly is a recent addition to Food and Nutrition. She began working at Thorek in March of 2007. She received her Dietetics Degree from Central Michigan University and completed her internship at Loyola University.
Food and Nutrition Department
Thorek Café is located on the lower level of the hospital and is open to the public Monday-Friday Breakfast 7:30-10:00, Lunch 11:00-2:00, Snack 2:00-4:00, Dinner 4:00-6:00, and Saturday and Sunday 11:00-1:30 for lunch.
